What kinds of things does an On-Call Corrections Deputy do?

Once training is completed, an On-Call Corrections Deputy is responsible for many of the same types of duties as a full-time Corrections Deputy.

As an On-Call, you would be responsible for the security of the County Jail and the safety of inmates, staff, and the general public. This involves, among other things, monitoring, inspecting, searching, communicating with, and providing direct services to the inmate population.

You might also be involved in Control Room operations, assisting with the booking and release of inmates, or medication distribution.

What schedule would I work?

As an On-Call Corrections Deputy you may work any shift during the week and on weekends. We try to work around your schedule. Every month, On-Call Corrections Deputies can sign up for available shifts the following month. Additionally, if coverage is needed during the month, On-Call’s are contacted to see if they are available.

Once fully trained, On-Call Corrections Deputies are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per month but are limited to working a total of 1,039 hours in a fiscal year.

How much does it pay?

Current rate of pay for On-Call Corrections Deputies is $17.45 per hour.  This is a non-benefited position, however, Benton County complies with Oregon law in providing sick leave to on-call employees.
