2023 Dust Control
The Benton County Public Works Department has contracted with one distributor to deliver a dust control product at a reduced rate for Benton County residents on County and public roadways this year.
Nutrien Ag Solutions will be applying Lignin, a naturally occurring polymer found in wood that acts like glue holding the cellulose fibers of pulp together. Lignosulfonates work by binding the road surface particles together. Water evaporates from the lignosulfonate as it dries, and the dust particles are trapped by the high-viscosity, naturally sticky material. In addition, over time some of the lignosulfonates become completely insoluble due to solar heating.
Any individual interested in dust control services and residing on a County or public road should call 541-766-6821 for an application permit or download from this website. Completed applications with pre-payment must be received at Benton County Public Works, 360 SW Avery Ave, Corvallis, OR 97333 by 5:00 pm, Monday, May 1st. After we get your permit application and payment, a receipt and flags will be mailed to you. Flags must be installed by Monday, May 8th.
In some instances depending on road and weather conditions, one full shot or two separate half shot applications may be made. Rates are by the lineal foot of application as follows: (minimum 150 LF):
Lignin: up to 12 feet wide - $1.47/lineal foot
16 feet wide - $1.96/lineal foot
Total application rate for Lignin shall be 0.50 gallons per square yard. Benton County attempts to schedule applications with a minimum curing time of 24 hours prior to receiving excessive rainfall. In the event of rainfall within 24 hours of application, the County may, at its discretion, make an additional ½ application as needed.
In normal years, the application is scheduled for late-May through the end of July; however, all work is weather permitting.
Please call 541-766-6821 with any questions.
